5 Days Luang Prabang Easy Rider To Vientiane

5 Days Luang Prabang Easy Rider- This epic 5-day route covers approximately 750 km of winding mountain roads. Because the riding days are long (5–8 hours) and extremely demanding. An Easy Rider motorcycle tour through Northern and Central Laos is one of Southeast Asia's ultimate road adventures. This specific 5-day route takes you over the spectacular, winding mountain passes of the North East Loop, through historical war sites, and into the famous karst landscapes of Vang Vieng.

 Day 1: Luang Prabang to Nong Khiaw ( L, D )

Distance / Riding Time: ~140 km | ~4 hours

Route: Route 13 North [

The Ride: A great introductory day. You will exit the UNESCO world heritage town of Luang Prabang and head north on mostly smooth, winding asphalt. The road tracks parallel to the Nam Ou River, offering fantastic valley views.

Highlights: Stop at local Khmu and Hmong villages along the road. Arrive in Nong Khiaw, a town split by a massive bridge spanning limestone karst mountains.

Day 2: Nong Khiaw to Muang Hiam (Vieng Thong) ( B, L, D )

Distance / Riding Time: ~167 km | ~5 to 6 hours

Route: Route 1C

The Ride: This is where the true remote mountain riding begins. Route 1C is a roller coaster of sharp switchbacks, steep elevation changes, and rugged terrain. Road quality can vary significantly with occasional potholes and gravel.

Highlights: Breathtaking views of the raw, untouched northern wilderness and completely untouristed mountain passes. Arrive in Muang Hiam, a small, quiet outpost town that serves as the gateway to the Nam Et-Phou Louey National Protected Area. Rest up and soothe your muscles at the local natural hot springs just outside of town.

Day 3: Muang Hiam to Phonsavan ( B, L, D )

Distance / Riding Time: ~208 km | ~6 to 7 hours

Route: Route 1C to Route 6 (via Muang Kham)

The Ride: A demanding but visually stunning day of riding. You will crest multiple mountain ridges, viewing layers of peaks disappearing into the distance. Be highly cautious on the stretch from Muang Kham to Phonsavan, as it is heavily trafficked by large cross-border trucks.

Highlights: Stop at the historic Tham Piew Cave near Muang Kham, a tragic and sobering site where hundreds of locals hid during the Secret War. Reach Phonsavan, the capital of Xiangkhoang Province. Enjoy a hearty hot-pot dinner to combat the cooler mountain temperatures.

Day 4: Phonsavan to Vang Vieng ( B, L, D )

Distance / Riding Time: ~230 km | ~5 to 6 hours

Route: Route 7 West to Route 13 South (Junction at Phou Khoun)

The Ride: Route 7 features relatively good tarmac and cruises beautifully through high plateau landscapes before tackling dramatic drops. Once you reach the mountain roundabout at Phou Khoun, you will turn south onto Route 13, descending into a wonderland of jagged limestone formations.

Highlights: Spend your morning exploring Plain of Jars Site 1 or Site 2, viewing the massive, mysterious stone jars dating back to the Iron Age. Stop for coffee at a panoramic strawberry farm in Phou Khoun. Ride into Vang Vieng. Relax at a riverside bar, or take a quick dip in one of the famous Blue Lagoons if time permits.

Day 5: Vang Vieng to Vientiane ( B, L)

  • Distance / Riding Time: ~130 km | ~3 to 4 hours
  • Route: Route 13 South (or the old Route 10 via Tha Heua)
  • The Ride: The final stretch shifts away from steep mountain passes into flatter, more rolling terrain as you enter the Mekong River valley basin. Traffic will significantly increase as you approach the capital city.
  • Highlights: Pass by the expansive Nam Ngum Reservoir (if taking the Route 10 scenic path). Conclude your tour in Vientiane, the laid-back capital city. Celebrate the completion of your loop
