Day 1: Luang Prabang to Nong Khiaw ( L, D )
- Distance / Riding Time: ~150 km | 6 to 7 hours
Route & Terrain: Smooth tarmac following the winding Nam Ou River north through scenic rural landscapes.
Highlights: Warm-up riding, dramatic limestone karst formations rising along the river, and relaxed riverside atmosphere in Nong Khiaw.
Stay: local guesthouse in Nong Khiaw.
Day 2: Nong Khiaw to Vieng Thong (Muang Hiam) ( B, L, D )
- Distance / Riding Time: ~167 km to 170 km | 6 to 8 hours
Route & Terrain: Extremely mountainous, remote terrain with rough or unpaved sections in the first half leaving Nong Khiaw before improving near Muang Meuy.
Highlights: Raw biodiversity areas, very sparse traffic, high mountain ridges, and remote minority villages.
Stay: Basic local guesthouse in Vieng Thong / Muang Hiam.
Day 3: Vieng Thong to Phonsavanh ( B, L, D )
- Distance / Riding Time: ~208 km to 220 km | 7 to 9 hours
Route & Terrain: Winding mountain passes, dirt and tarmac tracks heading south toward Xiangkhoang Province.
Highlights: Historic remnants of old US airstrip LS36 and the traditional steel-drum making village of Ban Nakout before opening into the plateau.
Stay: guesthouse in Phonsavanh
Day 4: Phonsavanh to Phoukhoun ( B, L , D )
- Distance / Riding Time: ~130 km to 140 km | 5 to 6 hours
Route & Terrain: Paved national highway climbing west through high-altitude winding mountain ranges.
Highlights: Morning visit to the ancient Plain of Jars (Sites 1 and 2) or MAG Visitor Centre, followed by a scenic high-ridge afternoon ride up to the mountain junction town of Phoukhoun.
Stay: Simple guesthouse or mountain view lodge in Phoukhoun.
Day 5: Phoukhoun to Luang Prabang ( B, L )
- Distance / Riding Time: ~120 km to 135 km | 4.5 to 5.5 hours
Route & Terrain: Spectacular sweeping mountain descents and sharp curves dropping down back toward the valleys and rivers leading to Luang Prabang.
Highlights: Breathtaking cloud-forest viewpoints along the mountain crests and a celebratory return into the UNESCO heritage town.
Stay: End of tour in Luang Prabang
